NEET Mandatory — Non-Negotiable
Student MUST qualify NEET with minimum 50th percentile (General/OBC) or 40th percentile (SC/ST/PwD). Without NEET, the foreign MBBS degree has zero value for practicing in India — absolutely no exceptions.

NMC & WDOMS Recognition — Verify Every Year
The foreign university must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) AND recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), India. Verify the current NMC-approved list at nmc.org.in before applying — the list is updated annually. A university approved today may be delisted next year.

Course Must Be Fully in English
The MBBS program must be conducted entirely in English. Programs that switch to a local language mid-way or are not fully English-medium are not recognized by NMC for Indian students.

NExT Exam — Mandatory to Practice in India (2024 onward)
The National Exit Test (NExT) has replaced FMGE. It is identical to the licensing exam Indian MBBS graduates must pass — significantly more challenging. Students must factor in 6–12 months of dedicated NExT preparation after completing their foreign degree. Choose universities with strong academics, not just the cheapest fees.

Minimum Course Duration: 66 Months
The MBBS program must be minimum 54 months of academic study + 12 months compulsory internship = 66 months total. Any shorter program is not recognized by NMC.

Compulsory India Internship After Returning
After graduating abroad, the student must complete a 12-month rotating internship at an NMC-recognized hospital in India before they can register with the State Medical Council and legally practice medicine.

No Dual Enrollment Rule
A student already allotted an MBBS/BDS seat in India via NEET counseling cannot simultaneously seek foreign MBBS admission. Studying abroad is only for students who were not allotted an Indian MBBS/BDS seat through NEET counseling.

NExT pass rate for foreign graduates was historically ~45–55% with FMGE. NExT is harder. Choose universities with strong clinical exposure and academics, not only the cheapest fees — your NExT preparation depends on the quality of your MBBS education.
